His father, Wilburn Arthur 'Wib' Thompson, managed the Southern Cotton Oil Company in Davidson and was a leader in the Davidson College Presbyterian Church. William's mother, Mildred Hartness Thompson, was an active member of the Davidson College Presbyterian Church and worked as an administrative assistant for Davidson College during the late 1950s and 1960s. William F. Withers '39 grew up in Davidson and graduated from Davidson College in 1939. Mr. Withers was a lifelong resident of Davidson and owned Withers Electric Company of Davidson. He was also a memeber of the Lions Club and Davidson College Presbyterian Church.

In this interview Mr. Withers mostly recalls his memories of the Town of Davidson.
