This series contains interviews with Davidson College students and alumni/ae. These interviews document various aspects of Davidson College's history and culture. His father, Wilburn Arthur 'Wib' Thompson, managed the Southern Cotton Oil Company in Davidson and was a leader in the Davidson College Presbyterian Church. William's mother, Mildred Hartness Thompson, was an active member of the Davidson College Presbyterian Church and worked as an administrative assistant for Davidson College during the late 1950s and 1960s. James Parks McCombs Letters

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of letters written by McCombs to his brother about family matters and college life. The majority of the letters date from 1854 to 1856. There are four letters from the period 1870 to 1885. Several letters in 1855 discuss the student unrest at Davidson over student suspensions and the donation by Maxwell Chambers.
