Henry Alexander Chambers Reminiscences

The collection consists of a letter written to Miss Cornelia Shaw, librarian of Davidson College. The letter gives some family history and describes college life and the faculty in the 1860s. James Parks McCombs Letters

The collection consists of letters written by McCombs to his brother about family matters and college life. The majority of the letters date from 1854 to 1856. There are four letters from the period 1870 to 1885. Several letters in 1855 discuss the student unrest at Davidson over student suspensions and the donation by Maxwell Chambers.

Scope and Contents This collection consists of two pieces; a typescript and manuscript of a letter written to the mother of William S. Bailey, of Petersburg, VA reporting to her the details of her son's sickness and death at Davidson. Bailey entered Davidson in 1863, but died of a sudden illness in April of 1864. The second piece is a photocopy and typescript of a letter written by Dr. Kirkpatrick to an unknown recipient in April of 1866. Lucy Phillips Russell Reminiscences
