Library. Circulation Records, 1924

Scope and Contents

The records consist of circulation statistics records for the years 1924 through June 1997. The statistics provide counts of daily circulation, with some years providing detailed breakdowns by Dewey Classification. The ledgers for the years 1987 to 1997 provide data only on door counts rather than items circulated.

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of minutes of committee meetings beginning in March 1887. The first folder contains photocopies of the minutes. The originals are in an ledger housed in oversized shelving. The minutes list members of the committee and topics covered. These topics range from waived fines to decisions about purchases, plans for new library buildings, and library policies.

The earliest material is a report from the Sub-Committee on Apportionment of Library Funds, 16 December 1935. There is a 1938 memo addressed to the faculty about funding a portrait of Cornelia Shaw, the first professional librarian hired by the college. Scope and Contents The collection consists of annual reports prepared by the library director for the college president, academic dean and occasionally the North Carolina Library Commission. The earliest reports provide financial summaries of library accounts and expenses and brief statistics on circulation, book repairs and new acquisitions.
